No mans land

One person has asked the Watchdog to look into the following:
When you travel out to East Weipa and cross the haul road, at the centre of the intersection are you on the civil road, or the haul road.
The person claims he once asked Comalco that question and the reply was along the lines of private vehicles have to give way to haul trucks and obey signs. Good advice, but it did not answer the question.
Watchdog wants to know if any vehicle crosses the haul road does the driver need a mine driving permit, site induction and the vehicle to comply with whatever standard?
Or do haul trucks cross a civil road and the drivers need to be licenced, and haul trucks registered. Could the police stop haul trucks for random breath testing?
Any comments please to Watchdog

Watchdog must be scratching his head at this strange list of suppositions. I really think we can be a bit more practical about it - there are lots of more important things happening about the place than this list of 'what-ifs'. Come on Weipa residents there must be lots of general stuff as well as important issues which could be raised on this site for comment - like the Lakes issues - do we make them more a recreational area with room for both swimmers and the boaties and their boards.

I do agree that the lakes could be made more user friendly by the community.
It was hard to find a spot at the lakes most weekends from the mid 70's till late 80's, what has changed.
I am sure the average ratepayer would not mind an increase of a couple of hundred dollars a year on his rates to be spent in Cook Shire, only joking.
Just look at the number of hits this site has got, and the number of comments received who really gives a toss about anything.
Forget fresh fruit, Rio, Rates, etc what really gets the town motivated is dogs.
Thats it! think about it, the number of dirty smelling k9's seen around the lakes fouling the ground.
Ban dogs from the lakes and the people will return.

Coppers should test me. I'll be in the yellow truck with dirt in the back.

Absolutely agree RE: The Lakes. We are relativly new here and see the Lakes as a waisted Rec Area. Three weeks ago was the first time I had seen anyone really enjoying the Lakes for what they should be used for. Entertaining the kids. A couple of Tinnies pulling Tubes around. A bit more of this and the area will become popular for the right reasons, not for walking your dogs around till they crap.

I remember it in the 80's with familys lined up ALL the way around the lakes and it was always hard to find a spot to fit in.. the lakes were full of people having a great time.. there was even a sailing club.. I must admit im not all that happy with power boats on the lakes but geez if nobody else is going to use it and its only use is as a k9 shit house then why the hell not.. Id love to see this changed though and it start being used like it was once so many moons ago..
